- 2 Pounds macaroni
- 4 cups cheese. We used Colby/Cheddar and Pepper Jack
- 4TB Butter
- 1TB Ground Mustard
- 1TB Original Mrs. Dash
- 1 tsp Garlic
- 1 tsp mesquite seasoning blend
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 2 TB Flour
- 1 1/2- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 Cup Bacon Bits
- Pinch of Crushed red pepper
- Your favorite BBQ sauce
Heat oven to 350°
Prepare macaroni, but remove from water just before it is completely cooked. This will allow the sauce to cook into the macaroni in the oven.
Butter bottom of baking dish with 2TB of butter.
For the sauce:
Sauté onion in 2TB of Butter.
Add to the onions ground mustard, Original Mrs. Dash seasoning, garlic and mesquite seasoning.
Add flour and cook until golden brown and fragrant. 1-2 minutes.
Add 1/2 of the milk and gently whisk into the rue. Add milk until desired consistency, Add 1/2 of cheese and gently stir until melted.
In the buttered pan, layer macaroni, bacon and cheese reserving enough cheese to sprinkle on top. After layers are made, sprinkle a little garlic and crushed red pepper seeds on top.
Cook uncovered in oven for 35-40 minutes until heated through and cheese starting to brown on top.
Don’t miss this step! Drizzle your favorite BBQ sauce on top and serve.
