Bacon and Jalapeno Cheese Ball, Fun Holiday Hooters
“Owl” you like to make some Holiday Hooters with Amy’s Bacon and Jalapeño Cheese-Ball. I Guarantee your friends and family will swoop in and eat ’em up! Who will get the last bite?
Ingredients
- 16 oz cream cheese
- 2 oz onion dip (like for chips)
- 2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- 2TB Mrs. Dash original salt substitute.
- 1/4 cup medium sweet onion chopped
- 2 green onions finely chopped
- 1 small tomatillo finely chopped
- 1/4 c poblano pepper finely chopped
- 1-2 finely chopped jalapeño peppers
- 3/4 cup cooked bacon crumbles
**For our friends outside the U.S.- Mrs. Dash is a salt free seasoning blend of herbs and spices.**
To make your own or to substitute for Mrs. Dash combine:
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp parsley flakes
- 1 tsp onion powder or crushed dried onion
- 1-1/2 tsp lemon pepper
Directions
Combine cream cheese, onion dip, lemon juice, Mrs. Dash, sweet onion, green onion, tomatillo, poblano peppers, jalapeño peppers and 1/4 cup bacon crumbles.
Set aside 1/2 cup cooked bacon crumbles. (They will be used to coat the outside of the finished cheese ball.)
In a large bowl combine: cream cheese, onion dip, lemon juice, Mrs. Dash, sweet onion, green onion, tomatillo, poblano peppers, jalapeño peppers and 1/4 cup bacon crumbles.
When mixture is creamy work in the shredded pepper jack cheese and form a ball.
Coat cheese ball with remaining bacon crumbles.
To Make a Holiday Hooter:
I formed the owl body and layered slivered almonds for the chest and used baked pretzel chips for the wings. For the head I used pepper jack cheese for a feathery effect. The eyes are more slivered almonds and olives. A whole almond makes the beak.
He is nested in kale and perched on top of an inverted cake pedestal lined with cheese and crackers.
