Potatoes au Gratin
Potatoes au Gratin
My girls love potatoes any way they can be fixed. This is one of their favorites.
Delicious, creamy and cheesy Potatoes au Gratin.
Ingredients
6-8 potatoes
1 medium onion finely chopped
1/4 red bell pepper finely chopped (optional)
1 – 1 1/2 cups cubed ham
1 cup water
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
4 TB Butter
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 TB ground mustard
2 TB Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning
4 TB flour
Directions
Heat oven to 350°
Put a large pot of water on to boil.
Peel, wash and thinly slice potatoes.
Put salt, red bell pepper, 1/4 of chopped onion and potatoes into the pot of water.
Bring to a boil and cook for 5-7 minutes. Drain water off.
Sauté the onions in butter until translucent and starting to brown. Add spices and allow to cook for a minute or so before adding the flour. Continue to cook until onions are golden brown and flour is completely cooked. (2-3 minutes).
Add 1 cup water to the rue mixture. Add milk and deglaze the pan. As the sauce thickens, add 1/2 the cheese, reserving the remainder to sprinkle on layers and on top.
In a 9”x13″ pan, layer the potatoes, 1/2 of the ham and cheese. Pour 1/3 of white sauce over first layer.
Continue layering potatoes, ham and cheese. Pour white sauce over all the layers and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
Bake in pre-heated oven for 40-45 minutes.
